How to Sync Google Contacts & Groups to Your iPhone

Google's offerings started with Internet searching and have continued to expand.

Syncing Google contacts and groups to your iPhone allows you to keep your phone and your computer continually updated with important contact information. Manually entering contact information can be a daunting task, especially if you have hundreds of contacts, so performing this process automatically using Google Sync is beneficial. As long as you're using an iPhone with iOS 3 or newer, you can add Google contacts from a Google email account to your iPhone.

Step 1

Tap "Settings" from the iPhone's Home screen and touch "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."

Step 2

Touch "Add Account" and select "Microsoft Exchange." Enter your Google email address and password information in the correct fields.

Step 3

Tap "Next" and follow the guided prompts to enter the additional information. Enter "m.google.com" (without quotes) in the Server field, and enter the Google email address in the Username field. Follow the guided prompts to complete the email setup.

Step 4

Tap the "Contacts" button to sync the Google account contacts to your iPhone. When prompted, select "Keep on my iPhone" to sync Google contacts from the "My Contacts" group in your Google account without deleting the saved contacts on your phone. Tap "Delete Existing Contacts" to sync Google contacts to your iPhone and delete the ones currently on the phone. If you don't have any contacts on your iPhone, the entries in the "All Contacts" group in your Google email account will be synced to your phone.

Step 5

Select any other services to sync to your iPhone and touch "Fetch New Data" from the Mail, Contacts, Calendar page. Touch the "Push" button. Google contacts will be synced to your iPhone.
