Microsoft MSN Hotmail is a free service that stores your email contacts and messages. To transfer from MSN to Gmail, you must first take a copy of your email, then import it into Gmail. Google's Gmail works with several programs, but the basic import file format is a comma-delimited text file. The comma-delimited file identifies each message, sender and subject so the Gmail import service can properly import your messages.
Step 1
Open your MSN mail in your email client. Log in to your MSN mail and click the "Inbox" icon on the desktop. Click the "File" menu item and select "Export."
Step 2
Type a name for your exported file such as "msnmail.csv." Click "Export" or "OK," depending on the email client you use. This creates a CSV file that contains all of your email messages and settings.
Step 3
Click the Windows "Start" button and select "All Programs." Open your preferred browse and log in to your Gmail account.
Step 4
Click the "Contacts" icon on the left. Click "More Actions," then click "Import." A dialog box opens where you select your CSV file. Double-click the CSV file you created earlier.
Step 5
Click the "Import" button. The email, contacts and tasks import to your Gmail account. To test the import, click a contact you had in MSN and view a list of email messages associated with the contact.
