Microsoft Works is a word processing program for Windows computers. Works offers a number of design tools including the WordArt function. WordArt allows users to create decorative text in a word processing document. You can use this text to design text blocks for materials such as fliers, brochures and small posters. Microsoft removed WordArt from Microsoft Works version 8.5 and later, so you must have an earlier version of Works to be able to use this feature.
Step 1
Launch Microsoft Works. Click “Insert” from the top toolbar and choose “WordArt” from the menu. A dialog window will open.
Step 2
Type your text into the into box in the window.
Step 3
Click “Update Display” when you have typed in all of your text. Your text will now appear on your document. A new WordArt toolbar will also appear across the top of the document.
Step 4
Click on the “Plain Text” drop-down box to see a list of shapes available for your WordArt. Clicking one of these shapes will alter the appearance of the WordArt.
Step 5
Change the font of your WordArt by using the "Font" drop-down menu. The default font is Arial.
Step 6
Change the size of your WordArt font by using the "Size" drop-down menu. The default size is “Best Fit.”
Step 7
Use the font tools to add other formatting to your WordArt such as bold, italics or shadowing. You can also add a border, change the orientation and add shading to your letters.
Step 8
Click “File,” then click “Save” to save the WordArt changes to your document.
Tips
- Click on a white area outside of the WordArt to return to the normal Microsoft Works document.
- You can double-click on your WordArt at any time to make additional changes.
- Resize your WordArt by clicking on it once and using your mouse to drag the borders of the WordArt text box.
